Due to the harsh Texas climate and other factors, often accompanying an aging roof is rotten or damaged wood. When estimating a roof replacement, we will always inspect the roof perimeter. Water damaged wood (fascia) is often lurking behind older gutters and elsewhere. The perimeter fascia board is an important consideration and an integral part of a roof project as the starting point for the first course of shingles, as well as the framing structure of the roof’s drip edge. We will help you prioritize your projects. Other carpentry repair needs such as siding and window trim are a common as well but can be separated from the prioritized roof project and scheduled later if needed.

Rotten wood replacement is commonplace on a home’s exterior, especially in or under valleys, on rakes and eaves. Fascia replacement is very common maintenance item. Homes built with traditional Pine or Cedar wood products will require maintenace repairs periodacally between roof replacements and paint jobs. Concrete-fiberboard, trim, and siding are more durable products such as the smartly branded “Hardie” siding and trim collection. We always work to suggest smart low maintenance upgrades to protect your home from more costly unnecessary damage
Fascia and roof decking are commonly found spoiled or rotten at the valley bases, around pipes and roof penetrations when opening up a repair area or removing a roof for a full replacement. We will repair these areas with up-to-date products for a lasting repair. Dayton Co ProRoof replacements are installed to avoid all the above with robust preventatives such as water and ice shield, premium sealants, synthetic underlayment, flashings, and details required.

Soffit Repair is required sometimes when the roof leak goes undetected so than is seeps through to the underside of the roof eave called the “soffit”. Usually a 3/8″ sheet product. Some products are vented others are not. Attic ventilation is a serious thing to ensure is working properly in your home. Soffit vents are open missing from home built in hte 70’s and 80’s. Many homes have had soffit vents added for the needed intake airflow to exhaust properly to the ridge vent or other static vents or solar attic fans.
Many, many homes built in the 70s thru 90’s were covered in poor quality partical board siding products known as Masonite among others, that have been disineragrating slowly but surely since it rained the first time. Hardie Plank, Hardie Trim, Hardie Siding have all been on the seen for 25 years now and have proven thier value and performamce. Most 25 plus year old homes are a siding and window project to to had! Do your research and don’t believe the window guy because he has an ipad. Siding and windows should be plannedto be replaced together and installed by a professional.

Things To Note
If the customer is considering an update to a rot resistant concrete fiber product such “Hardie Board”, that consideration should be planned at the time of roof replacement. Fascia product changes will be limited once a roof is installed as the thickness of each fascia product varies.
Changing of the fascia product on a previously installed roof can affect the roof product overhang making it either too long causing an unsightly folding, or too short allowing water run-off to seep into the edge the roof structure. We will assess and make recommendations (if needed) at the time of estimation.
