Some of the most common questions we receive and can help you answer include:
One of our main things we do in our roof repair and maintenance is to make sure that these valleys are adequately sealed. We get asked, oftentimes, what is this black stuff that you put on the roof here? And this is the flashing cement that we use. It’s really a sealant. It’s a roofing sealant we use to seal the flashing to the roof deck. It’s an asphalt based sealant that we apply to the edge of this flashing and to the roof deck that provides a real strong bond and seal to make sure that there’s no water penetration that gets underneath the flashing.
Today we’re at a tile roof repair, a pretty extensive one. Actually, we’ve got some squirrel damage here that, that we’ve seen before. These squirrels can really cause some trouble other rodents too, but these squirrels can get underneath these S tiles. This is an S tile on this roof. An S tile basically is a tile that has a S shape to it. In this case, they really have found their way in and created a lot of damage. We’re replacing the old material, which is an asphalt soaked felt, but you can see it’s dried out and, and no longer has the capability to waterproof. So we’re gonna be stripping this roof down of all this old asphalt felt. All this is gonna come off and we’re gonna replace it with upgraded products.
The underlayment replacing this old felt is gonna be a whip call, a whip 300. It’s a self adhering underlayment that we peel the back off of it. It bonds directly to the decking. And that’s really what’s going to make the difference with the squirrels.
We are also going to fix the roof valleys. Roof Valleys are the greatest point where you can get a leak or have some trouble because the majority of the volume of water is being directed to those areas.
Another thing that happens is there’s a lot of debris and the leaves and stuff like that which gets caught in the valleys, and it can create a dam at the end of the valley. So we want to make sure every perimeter so to speak is sealed up so that the water sheds off the roof and doesn’t get underneath the tile and instead gets off the roof where it belongs.
